Bilberry Fruit
Information
Bilberries (European Blueberries) are packed with antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, offering benefits for vision (night vision, eye fatigue, glaucoma), heart health (blood pressure, circulation, cholesterol), blood sugar control, and potentially reducing inflammation, supporting brain function, and even aiding in ulcerative colitis and certain cancer prevention. They're known to strengthen blood vessels and improve microcirculation, making them beneficial for various aspects of health.
Blueberries help prevent cancer by providing antioxidants that fight cell-damaging free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation linked to cancer development, and inhibit cancer cell growth while promoting cell death in lab studies, showing promise for breast, colon, prostate, and lung cancers. They also contain fiber, aiding digestive health and weight management, another cancer prevention factor, with compounds potentially preventing bacterial binding in the urinary tract, similar to cranberries.
With breakfast: Sprinkle them on cereal, yogurt, or granola.
In salads: Toss fresh bilberries into fruit salads or green salads.
