Cocoa Nibs - Heart Health & Protein
Information
Cocoa nibs grown in central America, are the seed taken from the cocoa fruit, fermented, roasted and then crushed into nibs. While this is pure chocolate it is deeply bitter with sour, floral and uniquely chocolaty notes as there is no sugar added. And sour remedies are generally focused on activating your systems. The key benefits are:
- High in Antioxidants: Cacao nibs contain polyphenols and flavonoids, which combat free radical damage, reduce oxidative stress, and may prevent chronic diseases.
- Heart Health & Blood Pressure: They may increase "good" (HDL) cholesterol, improve blood flow to the brain, and lower blood pressure
- Magnesium Source: As a rich plant-based source of magnesium, they support muscle, nerve function, bone health, and over 300 enzyme reactions in the body.
- Blood Sugar Regulation: With a low glycemic index and high fiber (approx. 9g per 1-oz serving), they do not cause blood sugar spikes, making them suitable for managing diabetes.
- Improves Mood & Energy: Cacao nibs contain compounds that may boost serotonin and dopamine levels, enhancing feelings of well-being, reducing stress, and fighting fatigue.
- Supports Digestion & Satiety: High fiber content promotes regular bowel movements and satiety, which can help manage weight.
- Rich in Minerals: Beyond magnesium, they provide essential iron (for red blood cell production), potassium, and phosphorus.
And taking Cocoa nibs on a daily basis is excellent for promoting heart health. Mix a heaped teaspoon in with your trail mix, sprinkle over a healthy yogurt or cereal; or add to a healthy smoothie.
If you are wanting to blend into a chocolaty paste, crush in a crucible or blend at high speed; this releases the cocoa butter and creates the creamy chocolate texture. Drizzle over a banana or use the paste to create your own hot chocolate bend.
